Fishing Urban Waterways for Carp

If you're like me, cold, clear trout water is in short supply, but warm, murkey water is around every corner. While living in an urban environment can certainly limit your availability to some desireable fly fishing species, it might just open up the doorway to a fantastic species you may not have even realized you had.

Fishing urban waterways for carp has become increasingly more popular with fisherman over the years, as these fish are impressively abundant in many urban areas. While they may seem to be slow moving and lazy, they are incredible fighters, and real hoot to catch.

Often called "the freshwater bonefish" for their long runs and aggressive runs, carp are just the opposite when not on the hook. Fisherman targeting these ghosts will need to employ stealth and an abundance of patience, as they are easily spooked, and generally will not begin feeding again for some time.

If you are living in an urban area and getting tired of catching the same old largemouth every week, try your hand at your local carp. Before you set out for the water, however, make sure to check out our gear checklist (using the link below) to ensure you are bringing the right equipment.

Stop fishing and start CATCHING! Download the gear checklist here.
